RANIERI International - Cayman 380 Executive

The maritime landscape witnessed the arrival of the Cayman 38.0, a vessel that not only seized immediate attention but also etched its name in the annals of boating success. The Ranieri family, known for their discerning design choices, orchestrated a masterpiece that seamlessly blends form and function, paving the way for enduring popularity.

As we embark on this journey, we'll navigate through the vessel's evolution, its top-tier "Executive Trofeo" configuration, and the revolutionary Suzuki DF350 AMD outboard, featuring the state-of-the-art Suzuki DF350 AMD outboard engines.

Distinguished by the noticeable "A" designation, these engines boast a more streamlined lower unit, an enhanced lubrication system, and a revolutionary integrated electro-hydraulic steering system within the bracket.

The standout feature of this update is the refined steering, offering pilots unparalleled precision while seamlessly integrating with the joystick-operated maneuvering assistance system—a feature that has also undergone substantial enhancements. Furthermore, the redesign has eliminated numerous cables and tubes connecting the engines, contributing to a cleaner and more organized cockpit.

On board

Starting at the stern, a meticulously crafted aluminum bracket unfolds its dual purpose—extending the boat's length to a strategic ten meters and serving as an intelligently designed swim platform. Covered in anti-slip synthetic material, the platform not only enhances safety but also features inspection hatches, streamlining cable management. Retractable ladders and a compact aft-facing bench with storage underneath add practicality to this section, creating a harmonious blend of form and function.

Moving to the cockpit, a sprawling "C"-shaped sofa takes center stage, protected within the tubes and offering a versatile space. The central flooring section, with its electrically adjustable features, transforms effortlessly to suit the mood—be it a dinette or a unified sunbathing area. Storage abounds, tucked away in lateral lockers and a central technical compartment housing vital systems and batteries.

Venturing towards the bow, a fiberglass seating block precedes a well-equipped kitchen unit, showcasing the vessel's commitment to versatility.

The galley boasts a sink, countertop, double gas burner, and a waterproof compartment for the gas cylinder. Attention to detail is evident in the design, and the provision for different cooking surfaces and an additional fridge underscores the vessel's adaptability to varying preferences.

The helm area is a beacon of thoughtful design, featuring a double seat with a separately adjustable bolster for optimal comfort. A spacious drawer fridge beneath the seat caters to practical needs. The entire helm area finds shelter under the fiberglass Hard-Top, boasting a higher windshield for enhanced wind protection and aerodynamic design to minimize resistance.

Transitioning from this area to the bow reveals an obstacle-free deck, making navigation a breeze. A good sized inclined cushion forms a chaise longue at the forefront, accompanied by cushions that transform the bow into an expansive relaxation zone. A supplementary locker below accommodates the windlass, highlighting the vessel's attention to both aesthetics and functionality.

Accessing the cabin through a sliding door on the console's left side unveils an open-space layout.

A forward double bed, storage furniture on the left, and an aft berth for guests define the cabin's layout. Despite being below deck, the guest berth offers livability, with the bathroom in a separate cabin on the right featuring a toilet and sink, complete with a grid for shower water recovery.

The vessel's commendable internal height ensures that the cabin becomes a comfortable retreat for a cruise accommodating up to four people. The intricate design choices cater to both style and functionality, underscoring the vessel's suitability for extended journeys.

On the water

As we set sail onto the water, the maneuvering joystick and counter-rotating Dual Prop propellers of the Suzuki DF350 AMD engines take center stage. Navigating effortlessly, the vessel showcases its prowess, with a seamless departure from the mooring.

At idle, the tubes touch the water, providing stability, while acceleration at 3,000 rpm results in planing at 11.5 knots. Optimal cruising at 4,000 rpm attains a speed of 29 knots, with an average consumption of 2.9 liters per mile.

The navigation experience is marked by comfort, as the vessel glides over waves with minimal impact. The new windshield design adds to the wind protection, maintaining a straight trajectory without noticeable tilting. Suzuki's Lean Burn technology efficiently manages fuel consumption during constant-speed cruising, underscoring the vessel's commitment to sustainability.

At 5,000 rpm, a commendable speed of 36 knots is achieved with a consumption of 69.5 liters per engine per hour. Fully throttling to 50% and raising the trim unleashes the vessel's maximum speed of 49.7 knots at 6,350 rpm, with a total consumption of 228 liters per hour of navigation.

Analyzing these results, the presence of the Hard-Top, impacting wind resistance and the center of gravity, emerges as a crucial factor.

In a prior test with a pair of Suzuki DF350 Dual Prop engines and 24-inch propellers, similar to those used in this test, a maximum speed of 51 knots at 6,200 rpm was successfully achieved. This historical context adds depth to the vessel's performance analysis, highlighting its adaptability to varying configurations.

Conclusions

The Cayman 38.0 stands as a testament to thoughtful design, versatility, and performance excellence. The intricate details, from the stern to the bow, underscore a commitment to both form and function. Whether cruising on the water or anchored in serene beauty, the Cayman 38.0 promises an immersive experience that transcends the ordinary, a vessel where every detail is a chapter in a maritime story that unfolds with each voyage.
