The Tempest 42, the latest maxi-rib from Cantieri Capelli, marks a significant evolution in the luxury inflatable boat sector, entering an increasingly competitive market. Its launch coincided with a major milestone for the company, as Turkish magnate Rahmi M. Koç, known for his passion for the sea, acquired a majority stake through his RMK Investments BV. This influx of capital and resources has allowed Capelli to develop a product aimed at the high-end market.

Innovations in Construction and Design
The Tempest 42 maintains the construction philosophy of the previous models in the "Luxury Line," but introduces significant new elements, such as the rounded shapes of the deckhouse and an innovative bow design. The hull is built using an advanced technique with vacuum-infused vinylester resin, which enhances both the strength and lightness of the structure. This method allows the safe installation of powerful, heavy outboard engines, making the boat extremely high-performing.

Power and Performance
The tested model was equipped with two Yamaha V8 450 XTO Offshore engines, providing exceptional power. There is also an option for V8 400 XTO engines, offering similar performance at a slightly lower price. However, it's unlikely that owners of a luxury vessel like the Tempest 42 would forgo those extra 100 horsepower to save a bit of money. This model caters to clients willing to invest in power and performance, as high fuel consumption is not likely to be a concern for the affluent buyers it targets.

Design and Functional Details
The layout of the Tempest 42 is carefully designed to maximize space and comfort. At the stern, generous swim platforms serve as bathing areas, with integrated ladders and retractable cleats. These details not only enhance the aesthetics of the boat but also increase its functionality, making movement on board easier. The Digital Electric Steering from Yamaha is a major innovation, eliminating the need for cylinders, pumps, and hoses, simplifying maintenance while offering smoother, more precise control.
The open stern features a large sunbathing area, maximizing relaxation space. However, this design requires careful footing to avoid stepping on the upholstery when boarding. While the layout is aesthetically pleasing, it demands a bit of practicality.

Technology and Comfort
On the technological front, the command station is equipped with large multifunction displays (either two 12-inch or one 16-inch), neatly arranged switches, and Yamaha’s Helm Master EX maneuvering system, which includes a joystick for easy docking maneuvers, even allowing lateral movement. This system ensures that the Tempest 42 can execute complex maneuvers with ease, offering stress-free navigation.
Comfort has not been overlooked either. The central dinette can seat six people and offers spacious storage compartments, with setups for advanced audio systems. However, it lacks a cooking surface, a surprising omission for a boat of this size and class, which could be useful for onboard cooking during long stays at sea.

Navigation and Performance
The performance of the Tempest 42 is impressive. With the Yamaha V8 450 XTO engines, the boat reaches a top speed of 46 knots while maintaining excellent maneuverability, thanks to the electronic steering system and automatic trim. Fuel consumption is high, with 267.5 liters per hour at full speed, but for a boat of this caliber, it's expected.
Even at lower speeds, performance remains excellent, with the boat easily planing at 11.2 knots and consuming 35 liters per hour. This makes it suitable not only for high-speed travel but also for more leisurely cruising, where efficiency and comfort are prioritized. However, with a fuel tank capacity of 700 liters, it's important to note that range is significantly reduced at higher speeds, requiring careful planning for longer trips.

Conclusions
The Tempest 42 represents a top-tier option in the maxi-rib market, combining power, comfort, and advanced technology. It is clearly designed for a discerning clientele willing to invest in top performance and luxury. Despite a few minor drawbacks, such as the absence of a cooking surface and high fuel consumption, the Tempest 42 stands out as a versatile and powerful vessel for those seeking the best in inflatable boats.
